It's time for a little basketball news!

If you’re ready for some good news on the basketball front, here’s a recent blog on Bruce Weber and his ability to recruit. Many doubted after the Final Four appearance, but with the recent recruiting classes signed and the signing period just starting, his current and future classes are looking like some of the best in the country.

Illini Football beats Michigan

Can we start October all over again, but this time from the end to the beginning. With this kind of momentum and emotion the Fighting Illini Football team might win a few more games. Here’s blog posted by Tom Young. I think most of us might feel this way. Just leave me alone, I want to feel good at least for this week.

Herman will resign his campus leadership position effective Oct. 26, and will join the University faculty, where he will continue to work with the campus’s Illinois Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (I-STEM) Initiative.

Herman submitted his letter of resignation Tuesday to Board of Trustees Chair Christopher G. Kennedy, who accepted it for consideration by the trustees. The Board’s Executive Committee is scheduled to meet Friday to act on Herman’s resignation and a revised employment agreement.

The University’s complete news release and Herman’s letter to the Board of Trustees are available at http://www.uillinois.edu/our/news/2009/Oct20.Resignation.cfm

Tate tells it like it is...

and it’s not pretty.  After another embarrassing loss, Loren Tate from the Champaign News Gazette is as fed up as all the rest of us.  The coaching staff has no excuse with the talent this team supposedly has to play that poorly against a bad Indiana team. It may be time to replace not only the entire football coaching staff, but the AD as well. Here’s the link to Loren’s post game comments. Tate: Time for AD to look around

Martin O

It’s time again for our fall dinner and we have lined up an outstanding speaker for you. This year we are honored to have Martin O’Donnell come visit us from the campus of the University of Illinois. He is currently the Assistant Director of Library Advancement. Martin is a graduate from the U of I with degrees (double major History/Communications) and his masters in HR Education. Now you probably wouldn’t think this was a likely career choice for a student who was also an All American offensive lineman for the University of Illinois football team for four years.

Martin was an AP First Team All American, First Team All Big Ten voted by the Coaches and Media, a 3 year Academic All Big Ten, Captain of the 2008 Rose Bowl Team, one of five nationally ranked offensive line, one of the top 2 guards.  Are you getting the picture? A serious student, a serious athlete and a very entertaining speaker who might just give us a little inside scoop as to what’s going on with our current Illini Football team. You must come and meet this wonderful young man.

Dinner will be an Italian Buffett including Meat Lasagna, Baked Cheese Manicotti, Garden Green Salad Bar, Fresh Fruit Salad, Tomato Mozzarella Salad, Fresh Steamed Garden Vegetables, Gourmet Rolls and Foccacia Bread, Coffee, Iced Tea and Desert.

Game Watch this Saturday at 9:00 AM

Rise and shine, we have an early kickoff this week. Meet at Putney’s on North Oracle for an early game starting at 9:00am.  You can eat breakfast there and enjoy a bloody mary if that’s your thing. The game is only being aired on the Big Ten Network, so if you want to see Eddie McGee in his first start as an Illini Quarterback, you better get up early and get over to Putney’s for the game.
